The Mausoleum of Sidi Abu Said is a spiritual and historical sanctuary dedicated to the revered Sufi scholar and saint, Abu Said ibn Khalef ibn Yahia al-Tamimi al-Baji, commonly known as Sidi Bou Said. He was an Arab Muslim Sufi scholar and spiritual master who studied the Quran and Islamic sciences, traveled to spiritual centers in the Middle East, and became a respected teacher and model of piety and devotion in Tunisia. After his death in 1231, Sidi Bou Said was buried in the village that later took his name — a hilltop town overlooking the Gulf of Tunis.
